At Teams4U’s Vocational College in Sierra Leone, learning goes far beyond the classroom.
Recently, students from across the college came together to plan, organise and deliver a full wedding
as part of their vocational training – showcasing not only their practical skills, but also their creativity, teamwork and confidence.
The project gave learners the opportunity to work in real-life conditions, supporting a bride on her special day while gaining hands-on experience that will prepare them for future employment and self-sufficiency.
A True Cross-Department Collaboration
Students from multiple departments worked together to ensure every detail of the wedding was carefully planned and delivered to a professional standard.
Tailoring Department
Learners from the tailoring department designed and created the wedding dress, applying the skills they have learned in garment construction, fitting and finishing to produce a beautiful gown for the bride.
Hairdressing Department
The hairdressing learners took full responsibility for preparing the bride, styling her hair and applying her makeup.
They also supported her throughout the day, ensuring she felt confident and cared for as she got ready.
Catering Department
The catering department prepared the wedding cake, cooked the food and decorated the venue.
From menu planning to presentation, learners demonstrated outstanding organisation and teamwork.
Celebrating Learner Achievement
The bride was very happy and impressed with the students’ work. Your money is making a difference in the lives of vulnerable women. It’s taking them from nowhere to somewhere, giving them purpose to live and making them believe in themselves again.
– Helga Kawa, Sierra Leone Project Director
“We are incredibly proud of every learner involved in this project.
They worked together with professionalism, creativity and care to deliver a truly special day.
This wedding is a wonderful example of how vocational training can transform confidence, skills and future opportunities.
None of this would be possible without the ongoing support of our donors and supporters, who make this life-changing work possible.”
– Lois Gerber, Project Manager
Supporting Skills, Confidence and Futures
Projects like this are at the heart of what Teams4U does in Sierra Leone.
By providing practical vocational training, learners gain the skills they need to earn a living, support their families and build brighter futures within their communities.
With continued support, our vocational programmes can reach more learners and create even more opportunities for sustainable change.
