Teams4U 2024 Shoebox Appeal: A Resounding Success
The Teams4U 2024 Shoebox Appeal has been hailed a resounding success, delivering over 60,000 shoeboxes filled with gifts and essentials to children in need across Eastern Europe. This year’s appeal reached Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Moldova, and Belarus, bringing smiles and hope to thousands of vulnerable children.
The sheer scale of the operation is truly impressive. Mobilising such a vast number of donations requires immense logistical planning and the tireless dedication of volunteers. From individual donors packing shoeboxes to the teams coordinating collections and transportation, the collective effort has been extraordinary.
The impact of these shoeboxes extends far beyond the material gifts they contain. They represent a tangible expression of care and compassion, letting children know they are not forgotten. For many, these gifts may be the only presents they receive all year.
This is the picture and story that Selma, a teacher in Bosnia and Herzegovina shared with the team when we visited.
It seems just plain crayons. But with these crayons he is 27 years old. I got them when I was eight years old in a pack and I’ve saved them ever since and now my little girl colours them. He was only afraid of them sometimes because they were of higher quality and were guarding themselves. I’m thinking about how much more things were valued before and how little was needed for happiness.
This year’s appeal also saw Teams4U personnel undertaking distribution trips to Oradea, Romania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. These trips provided an invaluable opportunity to witness first-hand the impact of the shoeboxes and connect directly with the communities being served. The personal connection fostered during these trips strengthens the bond between donors and recipients, reinforcing the core values of Teams4U.
We had an amazing time in Bosnia. I was grateful that our team worked very well together. Even though it was an emotional trip for me, I left knowing that we made a difference.
