This year, Teams4U Sierra Leone has launched a range of new short courses designed to make skills training more accessible to women and young people who cannot commit to a full-length program at our Vocational Colleges.
From cake decorating to makeup, IT, catering and hairdressing, these courses give students the chance to either add valuable skills to help them secure work or try out a trade before committing to a longer program. The shortest courses run for just two weeks, while the longest extend up to three months — a flexible option that has already proven hugely popular.
Every day, new students are joining Kenema college, eager to take advantage of the growing employment opportunities and high-quality work placements in the area. This increasing demand is shaping our future plans: we plan to relocate the Kailahun college to Kenema soon!
A Student’s Story: Vandi Jalleh

Among the new students in Kenema is 19-year-old Vandi Jalleh, whose journey to the college is nothing short of remarkable.
Until recently, Vandi was living on the streets. To survive, he collected wood from the forest and sold it door to door. He owned only one set of clothes and a pair of worn sandals. His feet were covered in sores, and each day he faced the dangers of snake bites and falls in the forest.
Everything changed when he came to Helga, our country director in Sierra Leone. She offered him clean clothes, a meal, and most importantly, a place at Kenema college with student sponsorship. Vandi started his tailoring course the very next day.
Finding accommodation remains a challenge, but with the support of Helga and the college teachers, who even cook meals for him out of their own pocket, Vandi now has the chance to build a new life. It will take time and determination, but he is no longer alone on this journey.
We are proud to stand alongside Vandi and all our students in Kenema as they take brave steps toward a brighter future.
